How do we start?

Upmixing your stereo project

or stems to spatial audiofiles.

  1. First we have to discuss what sort of mix is needed: binaural for headphones 5.1, 7.1 or Dolby Atmos for homecinema or theater. The end product will be compatible for the main streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal and so on. 5.1, 7.1 and Atmos can also be delivered to DVD-audio (5.1), Super Audio(5.1) or Blu-ray (5.1, 7.1 and Atmos).
  2. We look into your project: what is the starting point? Do you have a Protools, Studio One, Logic Pro project, stems, digital or analog tape?
  3. Depending on the starting point we can look into fees. If conversion of tape is needed more time has to be spent making the project compatible for digital mixing. In case of actual digital computer files we can skip this phase with one exception: your stems have to be mastered stereo stems. If not this has to be done also. These mastered stereo stems can also be used for a future stereo re-mix of your project. Stems are a part of the complete mix. For instance, a project containing 128 tracks need to be mixed down on a grouped level. E.g. one stem for drums, one for voice so in the end eight to twelve stems remain. A stem is a mixdown of a group of instruments including effect processing. This mixdown (the stem) needs to be mastered in the same way as the original stereo version.
  4. Also a very important issue is the availability of an already mixed and mastered project. This will be used as reference as the original artistic integrity has to be maintained unless the needs are different. In such a situation stereo, unprocessed – and not mastered- stems or the complete unmixed projectfiles are needed.

Remix, postproduction of your project

  • Have your recordings mixed to the format of your needs.
This can be stereo, binaural or Dolby Atmos like described above. Also audio formats for the game industry are available , see separate page.
  • Remixing can be done with original project files ore tapes. The original mix is also needed including as much as comments on this product. It is the duty of the producer, musician, distributor or whoever is responsible for the project to look into the legal obligations (or not) as mentioned in the contract with the former party who delivered your original mix.
  • Recovering old tracks is a possibility and we have to look into the material before we can give an estimate of the costs. We can discuss the project in progress in an early stage to evaluate the restored audio quality.
  • Video, music, background and voice-overs can be made into a full production.
  • Your audio can be sent (secure transfer) to FKG360 (digital tape, analog tape, old formats of audiofiles of long forgotten obsolete software) and retrieved so this is a global service.
